Week 2 - Project 1 - Classmate Feedback

Classmate Advice

I received good feedback from my classmate. He said I had a clean interface layout. I should add additional information as far as functionality and parallax. Good idea to keep the portfolio site 1 page with a menu navigating to different areas of the page. Transitions from portfolio examples to different areas of the site. We also discussed what color scheme I am looking at using. As well as some CSS animated logos.

Homework Week 1 - Unit 1 Reading Response/Inspiration/Moodboard/Interface Sketch

Reading Response

Anthony Lartz
7/22/14

Unit 1 Reading Response

In chapter 1, Krug explains how the usability of a site must be self-evident and to the point. This is important because not all viewers will necessarily be familiar with the content. To help the average user find what they are looking for it is good to have more than one way to navigate the site. It is also important to pick the appropriate words to get your point across without making the user stop and think. When you are designing your interface, it is important that your links are clear. This will help the user navigate the site quickly and efficiently. It is important to anticipate what the user will be thinking so the interface is not confusing. Make sure all your information is either self evident or self explanatory.
Krug begins chapter 2 explaining what users actually do when they browse a website. It is important to make sure the information you want the user to see stands out and grabs their attention. The average user only scans each page. If nothing jumps out at them then usually move on. User also do not all scan a page for the best link, they usually choose the first option they see. In order to fine tune a website for live use, perform several usability tests to see how real user will interpret the interface.
